About ROTOFLUX
ROTOFLUX rotary union technology
ROTOFLUX S.r.l. manufactures balanced microlapped rotary unions for transferring water, air, vacuum, oil, steam, coolant and hydraulic media across rotating machine interfaces. Product families span universal utility, high-temperature bellows, CNC spindle coolant, multi-passage distributors and process-specific casting and printing lines.
When to specify
Rotary union selection context
- Rotating cylinders, rolls, spindles and index tables requiring continuous fluid supply while in motion.
- Distinguish passage count (single, double, multi) before comparing port size and seal architecture.
- Confirm installation constraints: flexible hose connections, 6 o'clock drainage, forbidden hazardous media.
- Compare catalogue operating limits - do not extrapolate beyond stated pressure, temperature or speed.
Media and application selector
Route selection by primary fluid before comparing model designation, seal type and operating limits.

Seal technology selection
ROTOFLUX balanced mechanical face seals counter fluid pressure forces to reduce frictional heat and starting torque (Page 7).
Normal sealing
N Seal - Graphite to Carbide
- Sintered Silicon Carbide running against Carbon-Graphite impregnated with resin.
- Filtered water, air, vacuum and diathermic hot oil applications.
- Typical order suffix: 1300 on universal water models.
Heavy-duty sealing
D Seal - Carbide to Carbide
- Silicon Carbide running directly against Silicon Carbide.
- Poorly filtered water, coolant, hydraulic oil and abrasive fluids.
- Typical order suffix: 1301 on universal water models.
Balanced microlapped sealing: N vs D
| Clean filtered water / air | N Seal (Graphite/Carbide) |
|---|---|
| Contaminated water / coolant / abrasives | D Seal (Carbide/Carbide) |
| Spindle coolant dry-run duty | Specialized Carbide-to-Graphite (Serie A, BH, B) |

Key technical concepts
Face seal dynamics
Balanced microlapped seals
Balanced mechanical face seals counter fluid pressure forces, reducing frictional heat, starting torque and wear (Page 7).
Installation
Flexible hose and drainage
Always connect with flexible hoses - rigid pipe causes bearing failure (Pages 8, 31). Drainage pipe at 6 o'clock with continuous fall (Page 10).
Passage coding
Siphon suffixes
Single passage: no suffix. Double passage: -800 stationary internal siphon; -810 rotating internal siphon (Page order decoder).
Industries
Typical host equipment
Paper and plastics calendars, steel cooling, rubber processing, continuous casting, food and pharmaceutical lines (Serie F), CNC machine tool spindles, rotary index tables, coil winders and printing machines.
Applications
Fluid transfer on rotating interfaces
Cooling rolls, heated laminating cylinders, hydraulic clamp manifolds on index tables, spindle coolant and air-blow on turrets, contaminated casting water circuits.
Featured catalogue models
High-search-intent catalogue models with engineering identity data.
Safety and forbidden media
Installation and operating limits
- Forbidden: flammable, corrosive, toxic or explosive fluids including hydrocarbons, acids and pure oxygen (Pages 6, 14).
- No rigid piping to union connections (Pages 8, 31).
- Drainage at 6 o'clock with gravity fall (Page 10).
- Special HSC: 200 bar and 40,000 RPM catalogue limits must not be applied simultaneously (Page 68).
Engineering selection steps
Identify primary fluid, pressure, temperature, speed and passage count from machine requirements.
Use the selection guide table to shortlist Serie S, G, spindle, D08 or M technology.
Specify N-seal for clean filtered service; D-seal for contaminated or abrasive fluids.
Match port size, rotor thread and passage suffix (-800/-810 siphon variants where required).
Golden Bearing Company reviews catalogue data as dealer/stockist - provide complete model string and application context.
Process-specific families
Casting, printing and stainless lines
- Serie Z / K - contaminated casting water, 10 bar / 120deg C (Pages 44-47).
- Serie S Printing - offset/flexographic machines (Pages 40-43).
- Serie F - AISI 304 fluid contact for food, chemical and pharmaceutical duty (Pages 48-51).
- Serie C - ultra-pressure water/hydraulic oil to 400 bar (Page 52).
ROTOFLUX technical FAQ
No. The use of ROTOFLUX unions with dangerous, flammable, corrosive, toxic, or explosive fluids (such as hydrocarbons, acids, or pure oxygen) is strictly forbidden (Pages 6, 14).
Standard S-Series models (sizes 1/4" to 1 1/2") can handle fluid pressures up to 50 bar and temperatures up to 95deg C. For size 2", the maximum pressure is restricted to 40 bar (Page 13).
Specify N Seals for clean, filtered water, air, vacuum, and diathermic oil applications. Specify D Seals for poorly filtered water, coolant, hydraulic oil, and abrasive fluids (Pages 7, 13).
Yes. Series A and BH unions are specifically engineered with balanced, microlapped carbide-to-graphite seals that remain closed and tolerate high-speed dry running without damage (Pages 58, 60).
The drainage or leakage pipe must always be located downwards at the 6 o'clock position (Page 10) and must be routed continuously falling to allow gravity drainage (Page 10).
No. You must always connect using flexible hoses. Using rigid pipes will create excessive tension and eccentric load stress on the integrated ball bearings, causing immediate union failure (Pages 8, 31).
