How to Identify an Installed Elastomeric Coupling

Practical guide to identifying an installed elastomeric coupling from observable construction, element type, hub arrangement and markings — and routing to governed GBC families without interchange claims.

Only confirmed product identification supports ordering a specific catalogue size or element. Visual identification alone is insufficient for quotation.


What is observable

Before removing guards or disturbing the installation, record:

Markings and nameplates

Record any visible markings before cleaning or disassembly:

  • Cast or stamped characters on hub faces or flanges
  • Labels, stickers or laser marking on hubs or spacer tubes
  • Motor or driven-equipment nameplate data (power, speed) — supports duty context, not coupling identity alone
  • Previous purchase order, drawing number or maintenance tag if available

Absence of markings does not imply a generic coupling. Many elastomeric hubs carry limited external marking; identification may require element inspection or comparison with catalogue geometry after safe disassembly.
